The working group will provide a forum for members to share information and to raise and deliberate upon matters relating to Indigenous education. Specifically, it will be responsible for:
reporting, as required, to AEEYSOC and MCEECDYA on progress in implementing the above mentioned recommendations;
consulting, as required, with stakeholders;
providing policy advice on matters referred to it by AEEYSOC and MCEECDYA; and
drafting, with the assistance of the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, the chapter on Indigenous education published in the National Report on Schooling in Australia.
Timeframe and reporting arrangements
Annually, by jurisdiction, on implementation of the report’s recommendations, outcomes achieved, and identifying actions and strategies to overcome impediments.
Membership
senior officials with responsibility for Indigenous education from the Australian Government and Australian States and Territories;
a senior official of the National Catholic Education Commission;
a senior official of the Independent Schools Council of Australia; and
a senior representative of Indigenous education consultative bodies.
The majority of members shall be Indigenous Australians. Members who are not Indigenous Australians are encouraged to invite an Indigenous colleague to accompany them to meetings.
