National assessment in Information and Communication Technology Literacy (ICT) commenced in 2005 as part of a rolling three-yearly cycle of sample assessments that also includes science literacy and civics and citizenship.
Every three years samples of Year 6 and Year 10 students from across Australia are tested on their ability to use ICT appropriately to access, manage, integrate and evaluate information, develop new understandings and communicate with others in order to participate effectively in society.
Next Information and Communication Technology Literacy Assessment—2011
The next NAP—Information and Communication Technology Literacy will be undertaken by samples of Year 6 and Year 10 students in 2011.
Previous Information and Communication Technology Literacy Assessments
Previous national assessments in Information and Communication Technology Literacy have occurred in:
2008 NAP ICT Literacy Year 6 and and Year 10 Report (Assessment was undertaken from September to November 2008. The report on this assessment is not yet available)
School release materials are also available for previous Information and Communication Technology Literacy assessments. The information and assessment materials in these documents have been designed to assist teachers to gauge their own students’ proficiency. By replicating components of the Year 6 and Year 10 NAP— Information and Communication Technology Literacy in the classroom, teachers will be able to compare the results of their classes and individual students with the national proficiency levels and standards. It is anticipated that teachers will be able to reflect on this information to enhance teaching and monitoring programs in our schools
