Statement from the members of the Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs

The Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs (MCEECDYA) is pleased to announce the formation of Education Services Australia Limited, a new not-for-profit ministerial company which commences service on 1 March 2010.

Education Services Australia (ESA) has been established as a dedicated, national service organisation for the education sector, and will deliver innovative, cost effective services across all aspects of education. It has been formed through a merger of two pre-existing education ministerial companies - Curriculum Corporation and Education.au Limited.

Education Services Australia will build on the existing expertise and reputations of the former companies to provide efficient education services, particularly in relation to the implementation of national initiatives such as the National Curriculum and the Digital Education Revolution.

It will provide services to members of MCEECDYA and other education and training bodies, including:

  • researching, testing and developing effective and innovative technologies and communication systems for use in education;
  • devising, developing and delivering curriculum and assessment, professional development, career and information support services;
  • facilitating the pooling, sharing and distribution of knowledge, resources and services to support and promote e-learning;
  • supporting national infrastructure to ensure access to quality assured systems and content and interoperability between individuals, entities and systems;
  • creating, publishing, disseminating and marketing curriculum and assessment materials, ICT based solutions, products and services to support learning, teaching, leadership and administration, as required by the company owners or by organisations which commission such work.

The ESA Board will be chaired by Dr Tom Stubbs, formerly chair of Education.au Ltd. The Board’s membership comprises experts across a range of fields including education, governance, information and communication technology, business and marketing.

The Board has appointed Ms Susan Mann as the company’s inaugural Chief Executive Officer. Ms Mann was Chief Executive Officer of Curriculum Corporation from 2004. ESA will operate from existing offices in Adelaide and Melbourne.
