National assessment in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Literacy commenced in 2005 as part of a rolling three-yearly cycle of sample assessments that also includes science literacy and civics and citizenship.
Every three years samples of Year 6 and Year 10 students from across Australia are tested on their ability to use ICT appropriately to access, manage, integrate and evaluate information, develop new understandings and communicate with others in order to participate effectively in society.
In October 2008, the second assessment for ICT Literacy was conducted, with 5,604 Year 6 students from 299 schools and 5,322 Year 10 students from 292 schools participating. The participating students were from both government and non-government schools.
The National Assessment Program – ICT Literacy Years 6 & 10 Report 2008 was released by the Hon. Julia Gillard MP, on Thursday 22nd April. To download the report, please click here.

Next ICT Literacy Assessment—2011
The next NAP—ICT Literacy will be undertaken by samples of Year 6 and Year 10 students in 2011.
Previous ICT Literacy Assessment
The previous national assessment in ICT Literacy occurred in 2005. The report is available below:
School release materials are also available for the 2008 and the 2005 ICT Literacy assessments. The information and assessment materials in these documents have been designed to assist teachers to gauge their own students’ proficiency. By replicating components of the Year 6 and Year 10 NAP— ICT Literacy in the classroom, teachers will be able to compare the results of their classes and individual students with the national proficiency levels and standards. It is anticipated that teachers will be able to reflect on this information to enhance teaching and monitoring programs in their schools.
